Tips for Selecting a Health Club and Fitness Gym

Just because, you love the new health club in your area because, they provide free robes each time you visit, does not mean it is the appropriate club for you? Use the following checklist to help you identify a facility that exceeds your expectations.

The following checklist will help you remember important details you may overlook in finalizing your body building center – decision:

• Location – Select a location that is geographically convenient for you to get to

• Hours – Check the business hours of the facility to ensure it is in sync with your work-out availability

• Environment – Make note of cleanliness and sanitary rules of the facility

• Equipment – Make sure that the facility has ample machines that suit your work-out regimen. Look for any telltale signs of maintenance issues in the way of "out of order" equipment.

• Referrals – Have you had any recommendations or negative experiences with the health club? Verify the credibility of the gym by checking with the Better Business Bureau and Attorney General’s office before making a contract commitment.

• Customer Service – Are the physical fitness representatives knowledgeable and helpful.

Use the following list of questions to inquire about the facility before finalizing your decision.

• How often is the equipment replaced? (Outdated work-out machine may represent ineffective work-outs).

• What are the peak periods of the health club facility? (To plan your fitness schedule, it is important to find out the busiest times).

• How long have the physical trainers and support staff been employed with the fitness club? (A high turnover rate may indicate operational and managing issues).

• Are there extra fees for using the steam room, pool or sauna?

• What is the size of each fitness program class?

• Are any additional fees imposed, for example, for towels or the swimming pool?

• What is the cost of the initiation fee and monthly dues?
